‘New Moon’ EXCLUSIVE ‘Ulalume’ Clip: Bella’s Birthday Turns Bloody

31.10.09

“Dating an older woman, huh?” Emmet joked to his brother, who replied with a smile and a laugh. Yes, “Twilight” fans, if you will recall, Bella turns 18 with this birthday, making her one “year” older than the eternally-17 Edward. With now two years of comraderie under their belts, we’re excited to see how the chemistry developed in this second installment of “The Twilight Saga.”

Despite Nikki Reed’s claim that Rosalie is becoming more forgiving as the saga rolls on, her clipped line of “It’s a necklace. Alice picked it out” when she hands Bella her birthday present implies that character development must come at the end of the movie.

Alice tells Edward and Bella to “Show me the love” and snaps a photo we all wish we could have hanging from our mirrors. We get some great Emmett and Bella interaction when he almost refers to her truck as a “piece of crap” after telling her he installed a new radio for her present and she interrupts him with, “Hey, don’t hate the truck.”

But Esme and Carlisle give Bella the kiss of death when they pass over their present for the birthday girl, because it’s the one that gives her the paper cut which will cause her beloved Edward to leave her. Esme has a great line with “You’ve been looking kind of pale lately” (who wants a vampire to tell them they are looking pale?) before Bella cuts her finger.

This clip cuts out the shot of Jasper lunging at Bella that we saw in the first teaser. The scene ends with Edward giving Jasper a nervous-yet-stern stare that made us get chills. Guess we’ll just have to watch both the teaser and this clip over and over until we get a complete grasp of the full scene. There are worse ways to spend Halloween , right?

What is the likelihood of the Yankees acquiring Gerald Laird or another catcher for more catching depth?

Seeing that the Yankees definitely need a back up catcher, and I don’t see Chad Moeller doing anything too special as the backup catcher, is there any possibly that the Yankees could still be shopping at the Trade Deadline for more catchers? I also heard the Yankees could be shopping for Jose Molina’s brother Bengie. What available catcher would the Yankees look into acquiring at the Deadline? Be specific and detailed.

i think dey are goin keep it the way it is becuz all they need is a catcher who is goin be solid defensivly and molina is great defensivly cuz if u need a catcher to help ur offense den we are not goin be good

Arods Bro (LBJ>kobe) | Jul 27, 2008

I’m not all that sure who the Yanks would get, because there aren’t a lot of good quality backups – at least, not the type the Yanks would look for.
Joel D | Jul 27, 2008

Molina is doing a terrific job, and Moeller is not that bad of a catcher. He isn’t terrific, but he’s satisfactory and he works hard. That’s all they need right now. What are you going to do with a big-name backup once Posada eventually retunrs and Molina goes back to being the backup? A catcher is just not needed.

What Army jobs transfer to civilian jobs that are high paying?

Does electrician or elevator repair???

Well, my MOS transfers to considerably well-paying jobs on the outside (6 figures). I do avionics armament and electrical systems on Apache Longbow helicopters. Not only is it a terrifically fun job, the training is good. You will get all the experience that you need to get a good job in the civilian sector. Not only does it transfer to the same job on the outside, but many others as well. Engineers, missile designers, avionics technicians, aircraft electricians, etc. etc.

There are other jobs in the military that transfer to good civilian jobs too. You just have to find the one that is tailored to your own interests. Don’t let the recruiter tell you what you want… do your own research and tell them what YOU want. Then study for the ASVAB to ensure that your line scores are high enough to get those advanced technical MOS’s, and be prepared for a long training period, and in my MOS’s case, a longer initial enlistment than the vast majority of other Army jobs.

If you are looking for long term benefits as far as a job goes, aviation is a great place to be. UAVs and avionics are growing technologies. If aviation isn’t your thing, there are a few specific medical fields that are very good career starts.

Hope this gave a little guidance. :)

Suggest you train to be a policeman if that interests you all. Pay is good, benefits are great, and retirement income is fabulous; it’s also a tight knit community and you’ll always have a support group within the force. Of course, all this depends upon how hard you’re willing to work; to advance you have to study and take tests but all the hard work will be worth it. City benefits are great and really the police force is set up sort of like the military.

There are no elevator repairman in the military. Maybe for the big ones on an aircraft carrier! Look at what you consider high paying positions in the civilian world and then find the match in the military. Law enforcement is definitely a good recommendation. Vehicle maintenance is another.

To the poster who does not like people going in who are looking past their service to a civilian career who cares. The military needs people regardless of what their ultimate goal. After all we think it’s wonderful when a basketball player goes one and done to the NBA don’t we? Go for the bucks we say. What’s so different here?

Where do you think JJ Redick and Sheldon Williams will go in the NBA draft?

Results of mock drafts have them going 14th and 12th respectively. I think they will both be lottery picks. I could see Sheldon going higher than JJ, just because the bottom teams need a good physical inside player and Sheldon fits the bill.

I saw a report somewhere recently that Duke has most number of NBA players currently active compared to other schools, which pleased me, but was surprising. I didn’t know Shavlick Randolph was on the 76′ers roster, cool. Anyway, the media would have people believe that NBA GMs will be high on Sheldon Williams based on the recent success of other Duke big man alums in Carlos Boozer and Elton Brand. Personally I think the Landlord (Williams) merits considerable consideration for his accomplishment over his college career including multiple defensive player of the year accolades as well as being only the 3rd collegiate player to amass so many rebounds, points, and blocked shots in a season. I think Williams’ accomplishments on the court get overlooked because of all the attention on Reddick.

All that said, Sheldon Williams should be a definite lottery pick. I really wouldn’t be too surpised if Portland (the worse team in the NBA) had the #1 pick and took Williams. But then again I could understand Portland taking local, collegiate All-American Adam Morrison for both the player and the fan support.

So I’ll go with the Hawks at #4 (based on present overall standings) overall taking the Landlord. The Hawks have their backcourt set fairly well, but they need a strong prescence inside and Williams should make an instant contribution, potentially starting from the 1st day.

J.J. Reddick is a bit more difficult to project in terms of figuring out what NBA GMs might think about him. On one hand if you believe the media then Reddick is going to fall to around the 20th slot. I wonder when the last time the College Player of the Year fell out of the lottery. I’ve heard critics say Reddick can’t create his shot, he’s too slow, he can’t play defense, he’s one dimensional, all to which I say is bogus. Reddick is extremely talented with near unlimited range, a player in the mold of Reggie Miller or Ray Allen. In the present NBA where jump shooters are in the minority, whomever drafts Reddick will be getting a steal.

That all said, looking over the draft board, it would make the most sense for the Charolette Bobcats to take Reddick at #3 overall. The Bobcats are presently lacking outside scoring, as well as someone that can run with ex-Tarheel Raymond Felton. How scary fun would the Bobcats be at least from a publicity draw to feature a roster of some of the best Duke and UNC alums…? Very.

JJ should go mid or late first round, all he can do is shoot, and he benefited hugely from the Duke system and Coach K. Adam Morrison is a better scorer (he can actually create his own opposrtunities) and Brandon Roy is probably the most complete player available in the draft this year. I agree Sheldon should go before Redick, who I think is overrated by most sports writers.
stevebugge | Apr 21, 2006

JJ will go top 15 top 20 because he’s white and Sheldon will go probably late first round maybe ealier if he gets lucky
dylanred90 | Apr 21, 2006

JJ Redick to New orleans
Shelden Williams to Utah
hyeena_7 | Apr 21, 2006

I think that JJ is gonna go towards the middle of the first round. Sheldon’s going to go around the same place as JJ. I think JJ was amazing in collage but won’t be too hott in the NBA.
elektrikeys2837456 | Apr 21, 2006

Redick and Williams will both probably be taken in the 10-15 range. It wouldn’t shock me if Redick jumped into the top 10 but Josh McRoberts will go higher than both his teammates.
ecu_rich | Apr 21, 2006

JJ will be #1.
drpipelayernkc | Apr 21, 2006

sheldon williams can go high because of his inside power.anybody who get JJ will hope hecan shoot like the suns cause he cannot guard anybody in the NBA and he is not a good ballhandler.
avelino_ang | Apr 21, 2006

neither is gonna be a lottery pick, shelden williams is at best an undersized center, the quickness of pfs will destroy shelden, shelden has no offensive game, all his points came from garbage points, put backs, or layups. As for JJ he will go between 15-22. JJ will be do much of a defensive liability to be picked any higher. If JJ could improve his ballhandling, he could start for most teams at the PG, and there would be no issues with his defense.
gooozer | Apr 21, 2006

JJ is more valuable than Williams because he will be the most dangerous shooter in the league even as a rookie. Centers are valuable too but Shelden would just be another undersized NBA player. But Shelden is very very good too. Both will be lottery picks but they will not be taken before the top 5 picks either.

A good scene from Edward Scissorhands to Analyse?

Hi guys!

I have to choose a film to research in my film studies class, and I decided to go with Tim Burton’s, Edward Scissorhands. We’ve been asked to analyse a scene for our coursework (using technical codes and camera shots etc.) I need a scene where I can get alot of detail from, it has to be around 5 minutes in length.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A good scene would probably be when the Avon lady goes to his house because the contrast between his old massive estate compared to the pastel colored houses on the street is very pronounced. The estate itself is very detailed too with the animal shaped hedges, old dark look of the mansion, all of the Laboratory machinery, the darkness of the setting compared to the suburban brightness of the neighborhood.

Another could be the first scene of the movie where Edward is being created and taught how to act human

If you got a heart tattoo that was smaller than a dime how long would it take to turn into a blob?

It will be tilted slightly and hot pink. Will it turn into a blob after a long time or will it not take very long to become a blob?

I have a red heart tattoo on my ankle. It is about the size of a nickel. I had it done 15 years ago. And it still looks good. It does need to be touched up. If you are worried about it looking bad, then do not put it in a place where your skin will stretch (like from pregnancy or weight gain.) And if you take care of it from the beginning, you should not have any problems.

Kelley | Jul 06, 2007

it depends on where it is on your body
*LoVe*PiNk* | Jul 06, 2007

you just have to remember to get it touched up every once in a while to make sure it doesnt fade
kat!e | Jul 06, 2007

not exactly sure it might not be bad if it is only one color if you had got words and stuff it might… but i dont think it will blob
rua_88 | Jul 06, 2007

I know. Never answer a question with a question, but why on earth would it turn into a blob? Any tattoos I’ve ever seen remained viable. My grand-daughter has a fairy on her ankle. I asked her what she was going to do about it when she got older, and she said when the fairy’s boobs started to sag, she’d have a bra tattooed on it! BTW, she’s had it about 10 years.
felines | Jul 06, 2007

It depends on where you get. If you get pregnet it would turn into a blob becusde it would be stretched out then you wold lose the weight thats when it would turn to a blob…or then when your old it would be very saggy..haha =)
michelle f | Jul 06, 2007

I think that’s way too small for any tattoo but if you go to a good tattoo place they will tell you the best size for whatever you chose. also it’s a good idea to go online and research the design that you want and make sure that it’s something you will want years from now.
cheeka2162 | Jul 06, 2007

it doesnt take very long to turn into a blob it takes about 2-3 years i suggest you get a the tatoo about the size of a quarter than it takes about 6-7 years unless you get tuch ups and stuff then it will never turn into a blob..
I hope that helps!
Stewart297 | Jul 06, 2007

make sure you put it in a spot where the skin wont stretch.
swatthefly | Jul 06, 2007

If it’s done by a quality artist, and you don’t gain 100lbs or anything, then it shouldn’t change into a blob. You may want to have it touched up—for color purposes—and it probably won’t look funny until you’re 90 and it’s all wrinkly!! (Check out Avril Lavigne’s tattoos—they’re just like what you described…and they look good.)
jmeinada | Jul 06, 2007

It might fade, but as long as you don’t lose or gain a ton of weight, it shouldn’t change shape.
Manders | Jul 06, 2007

Find a good tattoo artist, who specializes in small lines and tattoos, talk this over with them. Good Luck!
Ghoulina | Jul 06, 2007

My thought would be that it would definitely turn into a blob eventually, but depending on where you get it, it may last longer than other places. If you’re gonna get some ink, get it loud and wear it w/ pride :) If you go to a good tat shop and discuss w/ the artist what you want they will suggest where the best placement would be and if you should go bigger.

How many had a negative down syndrome test but still had a down syndrome baby?

Like 1/10,000 chances maybe less because of your age..but doctor said its negative but you had a down syndrome baby and found out only at birth? Is this common?

My cousin (34 years old) had her test come back negative and her son had down syndrome.

I don’t think it’s common at all but it still happens.

What is the best and most accurate way to cut trim so I can frame a triangular pennant?

The pennant is an isosceles triangle (30×30x12). I am looking to frame it in a way that all points come to a clean point. I know I have to make angular cuts, and was looking for some tips to eliminate cutting errors. Any help is appreciated.

If you are cutting by hand, then precision is more difficult. One tip to get each joint to align well is to stack the two pieces of each joint, align them into their finished position and cut through both at the same time. The advantage is that if you are a little bit off on any angle, the two pieces will have the same variation and still align cleanly.

DIY Guy | Sep 29, 2009

I would use a miter cut, being sure to get the correct degree on each cut. This would make a nice fit on your frame.
Julie | Sep 29, 2009

The top angle for each equal leg piece is 11.5 degrees. The bottom angles are 78.5 degrees. These will be difficult to get cut right, and maintain correct lengths.

My trick is to use soft white pine wood and cut as best I can. Clamp the assembly to a board and then use an exacto razor saw to re cut the clamped joints. This will shave a tiny fraction off each piece and then the joints should be close enough to glue with a thick filler type glue to cover any imperfections. The corners will probably need some reinforcement with gussets on the back side.

If the pennant is fabric, it will shrink a bit after mounting if a little moisture and heat are applied. A steam iron will make all look better.

I enjoy making these odd angle cuts that appear difficult to good wood workers.

Quickbooks 2009 for payroll? Can time be changed?

My boss is entering my hours worked through quickbooks 2009. Is it possile that the hours are being changed by him (after they have been clocked in) as I seem to be receiving less hours on my check than anticipated?

You should have a ‘paper copy’ of your clocked time and compare it to your pay hours…if there’s a question…go to him with your proof and ask why…..
